CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS CASTS KEVIN CONROY AS BRUCE WAYNE

Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman in animation and video games, has been cast as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming CW Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Although Conroy has never played the Caped Crusader in live-action, he's still universally acclaimed for his performance as the legendary nocturnal hero, and for good reason. It was announced that Conroy would be part of the crossover and his role will take the form of "a special guest appearance as Bruce Wayne from the future."

THE 100 TO END AFTER SEASON 7

The 100, which has aired on The CW since 2014, will be coming to end after its upcoming seventh season. The season will consist of 16 episodes, as previously announced. The news comes after several long-running CW shows have either announced their final season or aired their final episode. Jason Rothenberg, who created The 100, broke the news in a tweet: "With The 100 Season 6 finale just days away, I have some bittersweet news to share: Season 7 will be our last. We are eternally grateful to WB & CW for always allowing us to tell our story the way we want to & to wrap the show on our terms. What an incredible ride this has been!"

CW IS PLANNING TO DEBUT NEW ARROWVERSE SERIES IN 2020

The CW is looking to launch a new show set in the Arrowverse next year. The Arrowverse is certainly going to be busy this fall with Crisis on Infinite Earths. All of the shows, including The CW's Black Lightning for the first time, will be crossing over. CW president Mark Pedowitz stated the network was planning to launch a new DC Comics TV show for the 2020-2021 season. Pedowitz did not state what that show was, but he did confirm it would be set in the Arrowverse. This is in contrast to Black Lightning, which had no ties to the other shows before the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths.

PICARD IS A HYBRID OF DISCOVERY AND NEXT GENERATION

CBS All Access' Star Trek: Picard has been described as a hybrid of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: The Next Generation. The series sees the legendary Starfleet captain return to the career that made him a hero, many years after resigning in the aftermath of a mission that mentally scarred him and spending the subsequent time living in solitary retirement on his family vineyard, with no companionship except his dog. Along with Patrick Stewart, Picard will feature several members of the cast of The Next Generation and Voyager reprising their characters.

DAVID LEITCH ON WHAT TO EXCEPT FROM NETFLIX'S THE DIVISION MOVIE ADAPTATION

Director David Leitch has teased what to expect from his Netflix movie adaptation of Tom Clancy's The Division video game series. The project was originally announced in 2016, with Jake Gyllenhaal starring. Leitch had the following to say about The Division and his plans for the movie: "I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan of video games, but there are certain ones that I really do enjoy. In the past, years ago, I used to play Madden quite a bit. So that's been my inroads into video games. The Division itself, I do like the core concept of every man and woman bonding together to figure out how to restart civilization. I like that core concept. I obviously like the action, in terms of the style of the game. It's not unlike the stuff I've done in John Wick, so there's something really cool about that. Or even in Atomic Blonde, like the stairwell scene, I see elements of that in what we could build in the action into The Division. But mainly, it's just the group of people involved in that project that got me really excited. Jake [Gyllenhaal] and Jessica [Chastain] as creatives, Kelly McCormick, my producing partner. And the world of The Division is incredibly cinematic, so the opportunity is there and fertile ground for something cool is kind of undeniable. So it's exciting."

SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME ALMOST PICKED UP AFTER HOMECOMING

Spider-Man: Homecoming's ending was almost the jumping point of Spider-Man: Far From Home. McKenna shared that Far From Home almost began with the aftermath of Aunt May learning about the real identity of Spider-Man. “She’s, like, ‘What are you talking about? People are shooting at you!’ and he’s like, ‘I can avoid it. And she says, ‘You can avoid it?!’ So there was going to be a scene where they go to the roof, May is trying to shoot him with one of Peter’s paint guns, and he’s avoiding it and doing all of this acrobatic stuff. Then he’s like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m strong.’ She asks, ‘How strong?’ and so they go to a construction site, and he’s lifting bulldozers and cranes and stuff,” he recalled. In the end, the writer is happy that they ultimately scrapped the idea given a number of reasons, one of which is "in Shazam! there’s a whole sequence where they do almost the exact same thing!"

Guillermo del Toro is reportedly lining up a big-name cast to star in his new take on William Lindsay Gresham's 1946 novel, Nightmare Alley. Leonardo DiCaprio was circling the male lead role earlier this year but ultimately passed to go work on Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. He's since been replaced by Bradley Cooper. Cate Blanchett is currently in talks to join Cooper in the cast of Nightmare Alley. Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Mark Povinelli, and Michael Shannon are all circling key roles in the film, along with Blanchett.

ATOMIC BLONDE 2 STILL BEING DISCUSSED MAY BE HEADING TO A STREAMING SERVICE

Atomic Blonde director David Leitch says Atomic Blonde 2 is still being discussed and could be made by a streaming service. Leitch confirmed that a sequel was still being discussed and a certain streaming service had expressed interest in making it. Leitch declined to offer any further information as to which streaming platform was involved but did say a sequel was in development: “I think there is [still talk of a sequel]. I don’t know all the details. I was a work-for-hire on that movie, but at the end of the day, Kelly McCormick - my producing partner and my wife - she will be involved, I’m sure, as a producer. That’s how I got the gig in the first place. We’ll see.”

BEN AFFLECK AND ANA DE ARMAS IN TALKS FOR EROTIC THRILLER DEEP WATER

Adrian Lyne is eyeing a November production start on Deep Water, with Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck starring, and New Regency fully financing. The film is an erotic thriller, right in the wheelhouse Lyne established with such blockbusters Indecent Proposal, Fatal Attraction, and 9 1/2 Weeks. Affleck and de Armas are in talks to play Vic and Melinda Van Allen, an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface facade of American suburban life.

EVERARDO GOUT WILL DIRECT THE PURGE 5 RELEASING SUMMER 2020

The Purge film franchise’s fifth installment will arrive in theaters next year, and Everardo Gout will be in the director’s chair. Franchise creator James DeMonaco will once again write the movie for Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes and Universal Pictures. At this time, the film is untitled and we don’t yet have any details, though it’s worth noting that with four films and a TV series currently under the franchise’s belt, it seems DeMonaco has his sights set on calling it a day in the near future. Possibly even with the 2020 film.

DAVID LEITCH WANTS TO DIRECT MCU BLADE MOVIE

David Leitch reveals that he’d like to helm Marvel’s Blade. The director noted that he’d be willing to collaborate with Marvel for a new project and that he was indeed part of the 1998 adaptation featuring Wesley Snipes:  “I love Blade. And it's actually one of the first stunt jobs that I was in, the original Wesley Snipes one. I was a stunt performer in that movie. I was in the blood club. You remember that scene? Yes, dancing around in the recycled special effects blood. It was great.”

MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE WILL INCLUDE GAME ACCURATE FATALITIES

The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie will not only feature the infamous fatalities on the big screen for the first time but will also feature ones taken directly from the game. This follows the confirmation from a few weeks ago of the film’s R-rating and use of the lethal finishing movesThe news of the game-accurate fatalities came from ComicBook, reporting on writer Greg Russo expanding on his previous promise of their use. This means that not only will the game feature various characters being killed in excessively gory manners, but they will be precisely the deaths that gamers have enjoyed sadistically executing for close to three decades. He also stated that they wouldn’t just be thrown around as expendable visual set pieces, but that each time they are utilized it would serve a specific purpose to the story, reflecting its developments at that particular moment.

TOM HARDY HINTS ANDY SERKIS WILL DIRECT VENOM 2

Following reports that Andy Serkis is in the running to direct Venom 2, star Tom Hardy has shared a photo of Serkis on his Instagram account, potentially confirming the director's choice. According to the previous report of Serkis being in the running to direct to Venom 2, Sony Pictures wants the movie to begin filming in November and is therefore presumably keen to secure a director so that casting and pre-production can move forward. Though Serkis is only credited as the director on two movies, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and 2017 biographical romance Breathe, he's a veteran of films that rely heavily on visual effects and has been a powerful creative force in franchises like Lord of the Rings and The Planet of the Apes.

OLIVIA WILDE TO STAR IN AND DIRECT IN DON'T WORRY DARLING

Olivia Wilde is eyeing her next project: a psychological thriller called Don't Worry Darling that she'll both star in and direct. Wilde and Silberman are collaborating on yet another film. The Time's Up-related Don't Worry Darling is a spec script written by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, which Wilde plans on both starring in and directing. Silberman will rewrite the script, which, in addition to being Time's Up-centric, is also "a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath." Studios and streaming services are said to be "absolutely salivating" over the script, which is currently at auction. The auction is expected to end by this weekend, by which time there may be a dozen offers on the project.

SNOWPIERCER TV SHOW NOT CONNECTED TO THE 2013 MOVIE

The Snowpiercer TV show will not be in the same continuity as the movie. When it was announced that TBS will be making a TV series based on Snowpiercer, many folks assumed that the show would be somehow tied to the Bong Joon Ho film of the same name. The Snowpiercer film, in turn, was based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette. The graphic novel will then inspire three more books, with different creators adding more stories in the Snowpierecer world. But according to executive producer and showrunner, Graham Manson, don’t expect the new show to have much connection to the film or the comic books.

JAMES WAN DIRECTING NEW HORROR MOVIE BEFORE AQUAMAN 2

Wan confirmed that he's planning to direct another movie between now and the release of the Aquaman sequel (which isn't scheduled to arrive until December 2022). However, he refrained from announcing anything about the project, including its genre and whether it's an original venture or part of some franchise. It's now come to light that Wan will, in fact, be returning to the horror genre and is already building a brand-new sandbox for himself to play in. Wan plans to shoot an as-yet-untitled original horror film this fall in Los Angeles. Wan is also co-writing the movie with Ingrid Bisu (who co-starred as Sister Oana in last year's Conjuring spinoff, The Nun) and intends to finish production by the end of the year, keeping the project on course for a 2020 theatrical release.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS REBOOT LINES UP GAME NIGHT DIRECTORS

Game Night filmmakers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in talks to direct Paramount's Dungeons & Dragons movie reboot. The classic fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons essentially ushered in the modern era of role-playing games when it was first published in 1974 and has continued to be a major part of that relative niche culture ever since. Unsurprisingly, Hollywood has already tried to cash-in on its popularity once before; the result, however, was the infamously campy box office misfire that was 2000's D&D live-action film.

DARKSEID AND THE FURIES CONFIRMED FOR THE NEW GODS MOVIE

Darkseid and The Furies will be in DC's New Gods movie, according to director Ava DuVernay. Warner Bros. and DC Films currently have five films in the DCEU confirmed to be on the way, with release dates set through 2022, but they're developing many more. One of these is New Gods, an adaptation of the Jack Kirby creations that'll be helmed by acclaimed filmmaker DuVernay. The New Gods are incredibly powerful beings from New Genesis and Apokolips. The Furies and Darkseid are all staple characters in the New Gods stories and mythos. The Furies are an all-female warrior group from Apokolips who serve Darkseid, the leader of the planet. DuVernay confirming The Furies and Darkseid for New Gods should go a long way in letting fans know she and King are faithfully adapting the property, but also paves the way for the movie to become a franchise of its own.
